Constituida la Federación de Estudiantes Anarquistas de los EE.UU / No Masters, No Slaves: First Meeting of the Student Anarchist Federation
"El sábado 18 de febrero, estudiantes de todo Massachusetts se reunieron en el V ENCUENTRO, en Chinatown, para la reunión inaugural de la Federación de Estudiantes Anarquistas (SAF)[1]. La SAF espera construirse dentro de la popularidad del movimiento Occupy [2]. Planean ayudar a los estudiantes a organizarse en una forma no jerárquica para desafiar el capitalismo, el estado y otras formas de opresión –una visión que proviene del retrato del anarquismo de la derecha e izquierdas nihilistas.
Cerca de 50 estudiantes estuvieron presentes en el encuentro del Sabado los representantes vienes entre otros de universidades como Universidad de Boston, Tufts, Northeastern, Emerson, Bunker Hill, Burlington, Wentworth, Emmanuel, Simmons, La Universidad de Salem. Muchos de los participantes se negaron a dar el nombre completo debido al riesgo de represión estatal o laboral. Muchxs como “Malatesta” [3] llevan bastante tiempo actuando por sus campus, pero ahora ven una gran oportunidad en el movimiento Occupy para difundir las ideas anarquistas .
La SAF se ha inspirado en el FEL chileno que tiene raíces en las trifulcas estudiantiles contra las medidas neoliberales tomadas por el gobierno Chileno de Pinochet. Este régimen, principalmente famoso por los asesinatos de personas de izquierdas, en los 70s creo grandes desigualdades entre zonas a la hora de la educación. El FEL se constituyó organizativamente en 2003 pese a haber actuado desde los 90s. Actualmente sigue siendo un vehículo para estudiantes anarquistas y sus ideas de socialización de la educación. El FEL estuvo muy activo en las protestas de 2011-2012 que han acabado en ocupaciones de más de 100 universidades.
Lxs participantes de la SAF, albergan esperanzas de que la propia SAF pueda ayudar a crear acciones a mayor escala, como: conocerse entre los propios estudiantes, promover el anarquismo y movilizarse en protestas coordinadas. Una propuesta fue el desarrollo de nuevos materiales de difusión, como revistas y panfletos. Grupos de trabajo estudiantiles se plantearon como luchar contra las tasas T [4]. Fue aprobada una moción de manifestación por los diferentes miembros el día 1 de Marzo (Día Nacional Americano de la Educación).
Muchxs de lxs participantes informaron de iniciativas anarquistas, que florecen en sus respectivos campus como respuesta a la jerarquía ilegitima que está incrementando en diferentes universidades. Estas autoridades están intentando realizar medidas impopulares como restricciones de lugares de encuentro entre grupos estudiantiles y aumentos de las tasas de las matriculas. Como resultado los estudiantes quieren un mundo sin estas autoridades y están empezando a trabajar para conseguirlo.
Lxs miembrxs de la SAF también discutieron como deberían llevar a cabo sus acciones en federación manteniendo sus valores. Muchxs participantes creen que un movimiento anarquista no debe centrase únicamente en acciones anti-capitalistas o anti-estatales, de modo que necesitan tratar todas las formas de opresión de forma nueva y creativa. Una mujer habló de “ crear grupos de afinidad y lugares seguros para las personas en riesgo de exclusión “ Emily, de Burlington describió el anarquismo como: “construir una sociedad sin sistemas de opresión sustituidos por compasión radical y democracia directa, donde las personas importan”.
Lxs organizadorxs acordaron que la próxima reunión será un debate sobre que constituyen la estrategia y valores anarquistas. Será el Domingo 26 en la avenida 33 de Harrison, 5th planta, Boston, empezando a las 7 de la tarde

No Masters, No Slaves: First Meeting of the Student Anarchist Federation
On Saturday February 18, students from across Massachusetts gathered at Encuentro 5 in Chinatown for the inaugural meeting of the Student Anarchist Federation (SAF). The SAF hopes to build on the upsurge in anarchism’s popularity in the wake of the Occupy movement. They plan to do so by helping students organize in a non-hierarchical manner to challenge capitalism, the state, and all forms of oppression – a vision that departs markedly from anarchism’s nihilistic portrayal by the political left and right alike.
Nearly 50 students were present at Saturday’s meeting. Colleges represented included Boston University, Tufts, Northeastern, Emerson, Bunker Hill, Burlington, Wentworth, Emmanuel, Simmons, and Salem State University. Many were reluctant to disclose their full names due to the possibility of state or employer reprisal. Some, such as “Malatesta” of Boston University, had been active on their campuses for a long time, but now see anarchism “spreading like wildfire,” energized in part by Occupy protests.
The SAF takes its inspiration from the Libertarian Student Front (Frente de Estudiantes Libertarios/FEL) in Chile. The FEL has roots in the struggles of Chilean students against the neoliberal reforms of (US-backed) dictator Augusto Pinochet. Pinochet’s regime, most famous for ordering the murder of thousands of leftists in the 1970s, also altered the country’s education system, introducing enormous inequalities between regions. The FEL was formally constituted in 2003, following initial actions in the late 1990s. It continues to provide a political space for anarchist students to promote horizontialism and the socialization of the education system. The FEL has been active in 2011-2012 Chilean student uprisings, which have seen student occupations of more than 100 universities.
Participants at the first meeting of the SAF expressed belief that their federation’s establishment would allow for more large-scale actions in Massachusetts, including outreach to students, teach-ins on anarchism, and coordinated protests. One proposal was for the development of new materials for outreach, such as magazines and pamphlets. Breakout groups discussed how to fight student T fare hikes. A motion was passed for the SAF to march together on March 1, the National Day of Action for Education.
Many of the participants reported anarchistic ideas flourishing on their campuses in the face of increasingly delegitimized college authorities. These authorities are trying to push through unpopular tuition hikes and place restrictions on student groups. As a result, students find it increasingly desirable to imagine a world without such authorities and to work toward building such a world.
SAF members also discussed how exactly their values should be put into practice through the federation. Many participants believed that an anarchist organization should not focus just on anti-capitalist or anti-state actions, but needed to address all forms of oppression, in new and creative ways. One woman spoke of the need “to create affinity groups and safe spaces for oppressed people.” Emily from Burlington described the appeal of anarchism as that of “building a society without systems of oppression, sustained by radical compassion and direct democracy, where people are taken care of.”
The meeting ended with the organizers deciding to devote most of the next meeting to a discussion of what constitutes anarchist values and strategy. The next meeting will be Sunday, Feb 26, at E5 (33 Harrison Ave, 5th floor, Boston) starting at 7 pm.
